Zwar färbt Lithium relativ kalte Alkoholflammen intensiv scharlachrot, in wesentlich heißeren [[pyrotechnischer Satz|pyrotechnischen Sätzen]] emittiert Lithium aber vor allem im nicht sichtbaren Bereich des Spektrums. Dies ist auf die Bildung von Lithiumhydroxid (LiOH) und Lithiumchlorid (LiCl) zurückzuführen und trifft insbesondere in Kombination mit Chlorverbindungen, die in anderen Sätzen als [[Farbverbesserer]] verwendet werden, zu.<br />

Dennoch wird in der Literatur von einigen pyrotechnischen Sätzen berichtet, in denen Lithium zur Erzeugung violetter Flammen in [[Glitter]]sätzen, Signallichtern und [[Lichtlanze]]n eingesetzt wird. An anderer Stelle wird von der Verwendung von [[Lithiumnitrat]] anstelle von [[Kaliumnitrat]] in [[Schwarzpulver]] berichtet, was eine 10-fach höhere Abbrandgeschwindigkeit zur Folge hatte.<br />

Aus der [[militärische Pyrotechnik|militärischen Pyrotechnik]] wird von einer Vielzahl von Anwendungsformen von Lithium in pyrotechnischen Sätzen berichtet, insbesondere als [[Oxidationsmittel]] in Treibsätzen für Raketen und als "Farbgeber" in Täuschkörpern, die Infrarotstrahlung emittieren. Inwieweit diese tatsächlich Anwendung finden, ist nicht bekannt.<br />
